Abstract
This study aims to investigate the characteristics of slang used in wine terminology, highlighting its role in professional and informal communication between industry professionals and everyday consumers. Our research seeks to analyse the semantic and functional mechanisms through which slang terms replace or supplement scientific terminology, facilitating the rapid transmission of information. It is worth noting the difficulty of researching slang, which, being a language accepted within small groups, is unstable, predominantly oral, and subject to continuous updating and renewal. Nevertheless, this semantic and functional instability is precisely what defines slang, transforming it into a living laboratory of linguistic creativity. From this perspective, slang must be approached not merely as a static object of lexicographical cataloguing, but as a dynamic discursive phenomenon, the analysis of which requires flexible, interdisciplinary, and socioculturally contextualised tools.
