The language of architecture - an attempt to clarify

Abstract

This article discusses the language of architecture, a special language, which, being examined from the perspective of the act of communication, is distinguished by two defining characteristics: first, as a set of terms specific to architecture as a science, and second, as a component of the sender-message-recipient triad. At the same time, the act of communication can be examined through the prism of general semiotics, which, in turn, contributes radically to the interpretation of special languages, including the examination of the language of architecture. Here, we are particularly interested in the second aspect – the relationship sender – message – recipient, in which, upon careful analysis, we distinguish the active character of the recipient – the object of architecture – which suggests to the sender certain ideas, conclusions and interpretations, so that the activism of the architectural object has a passive character, and the passivism of the sender acquires an active character through the formulation of some concepts and through his verbal reaction.
